Artistic Rendering of Consumer Video

Falling hardware costs have prompted an explosion in casual video capture by domestic consumers. However, once captured, this video is infrequently accessed and often lies dormant on users' PCs. In collaboration with the MIUL team at HP Labs Bristol, we are undertaking a programme of research to breathe life into consumer video repositories, allowing users to effortlessly visualize and 'rediscover' their video collections. We are exploring ways to create compelling displays of casually captured video content, and investigate techniques to intelligently select content for display (e.g. through visual information retrieval, and automatic video directing).

Short Bio

I am a doctoral candidate based in the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) at the University of Surrey and the HP labs at Bristol. I am supervised by Dr John Collomosse and Prof. Adrian Hilton. My research is funded by HP labs with the Innovation Research Programme (IRP). I am a visiting researcher in the Multimedia Interaction and Understanding Lab at  HP Labs during my PhD.

I received a MSc in Electrical Engineering from Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden) and
Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen, Germany), with "sehr gut" (1.3 - Exceptional in German Education System).

I spent brief periods of time working at HP Labs (HP IRP project 2010), Sony R&D, the University of Bath (HP IRP project 2009), the University of Warwick (EPSRC project EP/F030843/1), Chinese Academy of Science (SHRCWC, Sino-Finland ICT Alliance Project 2007/2008), RWTH Aachen University (FP7/2007-2013 "OMEGA").
