Micro-Nano Technology for Implementation of Small Spacecraft

Abstract

The Ångström Space Technology Centre (ÅSTC) of the Uppsala University in Sweden specialises in micro/nano technology (MNT) for space applications. The research of the centre focuses on two domains: development of basic micro/nano technology for space applications and conducting of the ÅSTC's NanoSatellite program. The Centre has developed a satellite testbed project, which is aimed at testing high-risk MST technologies for space. The adopted design approach is based on the concept of a Multifunctional Micro Systems (MMS) module. A typical ÅSTC MMS module, consists of four to six silicon wafers and measures 68 x 68 x 2.6 mm. The talk will outline the MNT technology and will discuss recent demonstration activities.
