“2004 A Saturn Odyssey: The Cassini Mission”

Abstract:

The Cassini spacecraft is part of a joint US-European mission to explore Saturn and its largest moon, Titan.  Launched in 1997 the spacecraft had its final gravity assist from Jupiter in December 2000 and will start its four-year tour of the Saturn system on 1st July 2004.  The talk will describe the background to the mission, the discoveries to date and the scientific goals at Saturn, with particular emphasis on the imaging experiment.
