"Low Earth Orbit (LEO) - The Cosmic Rubbish Tip: Orbital Debris Environment and Risk Analysis" - Tuesday, the 23rd of March..

Abstract:

Concerns about the operational impact of artificial orbital debris has grown significantly over the last decade, as the spatial density of such material continues to increase, particularly in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The speaker will review the current status of LEO debris, and look to the future to outline the consequences of this environmental issue on spacecraft manufacture and operation. The talk will conclude with a summary of current research being undertaken at Southampton, in collaboration with the Space Debris at DERA Farnborough, in the area of environmental modelling and impact risk analysis.
