A few yards from here still stands one of the buildings used in the London to Portsmouth semaphore line. The exposed location and poor living conditions claimed the lives of two of the operators; now reckoned to haunt the place. Here, though, is the view looking north taken with a standard 50mm lens.

Here is the same view taken with a teleconverter fitted to the dreaded Centon lens. May seem mad, and the focus is worse even than normal, but remember that what you see here (Uppark AD1680+) is over 2.7km (1.7 miles) distant.

How thoughtful of Compton to provide refreshment for the weary photographer after such a tough assignment. I should have worn green wellies though.
