In 1945 Bushy Park was converted into SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces) which controlled the Normandy invasion; now commemorated by a small plaque at the north end.

The annual 'Chesnut Sunday' event attracts a variety of exhibitors such as this fencing club
