On the right - the church of St. Nicholas' and a stutue of Charles William Stewart (1778-1854), third marquis of Londonderry, who fought with Wellington. Centre - the Guildhall.

Since every photographer who has ever visited Durham can show you a shot of the West end of the cathedral (begun in 1093) from across the river, here instead is the South side. I wish someone had parked in the river instead of in this frame.

History buffs will want to see the Venerable Bede's last resting place inside.
