One-day meeting for young speech researchers, 16 July 2008, U. Surrey, Guildford

Overview

Submissions have been received for a one day meeting to be held at the University of Surrey, Guildford, on Wednesday 16 July 2008. This meeting is an opportunity for graduate students and new researchers from industry and academia to discuss their work in progress with speech scientists and technologists from across the UK. It follows the format of previous successful meetings held at UCL. We have poster and a few selected oral presentations on all aspects of speech research, analysis and processing including theoretical work and speech technology. Although this is also an informal meeting for members of the UK speech research community, submissions from elsewhere are welcomed.

Conference format

The programme will follow that of previous meetings: mainly posters and half a dozen talks, with no parallel sessions. Talks will take place in the middle of the day, broken by lunch (not provided, but available on campus). Poster sessions will be held at the beginning and end of the day, to give participants flexibility of arrival and departure, and some demonstrations are planned. Abstracts of each presentation are now available and included in the proceedings (pdf, bib).

Here are some pictures taken on the day:

Location

Registration, demos and poster sessions will take place in the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP), which is in the heart of Surrey's main campus, in the AB block on the top, fifth floor (AB-05). Talks will be held in Lecture Theatre E, in the adjacent Lecture Theatre block. The CVSSP is behind the Library, next to the Post Office, and also accessible from the Spine Road. A red arrow marks its position on the travel map, and AB block is shown on the campus map.

Registration

There is no charge for the conference, but we do ask those wishing to attend to register. We will try to make best use of the limited space, so registering to book your place would help us with our planning if you do intend to come. The registration desk will be in the CVSSP foyer from 10am on the day.
