I am one of the Unix Systems Administrators for the School of Electronics and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey here at Guildford.
As
a member of the School Computing Service team, I am part of the core team that provides the computing infrastructure for the School.
Our current projects include a new high-availability web system, a web content management system, and a new virtual operating systems environment based on VMware ESX and an EMC SAN system from Dell.
I am also the department's webmaster, providing computing documentation for the School and running the occasional UNIX tutorial session.
Before coming to Guildford, I worked for the I.T. Service at the University
of Durham helping to develop undergradate computer literacy courses
and staff workshop sessions as well as developing computer based learning
material for various academic departments.
Durham is
a great place to visit, (since I am originally from there). A very
picturesque place.
I did a degree in Pure Physics at the University
of Portsmouth.
It is a great place with sun, sea, sand and good pubs (but a crap football team, and even worse stadium).
Sports, music and beer. Not in
that order though. Keen football player, both 5-a-side
and 11-a-side. Plays like a Brazilian so he has been told, although personally
considers himself more like Bryan Robson in his heyday. Life long Sunderland supporter. Plays in the Surrey
6-a-side League for the SSTL team as one of their star strikers.
I love travelling around Europe whenever I get the opportunity. Have a wander around my photo album. There are some pics of home and abroad. I also like to go wandering up hills and mountains.
