St Lucia - Restaurants

Restaurants in the North of the Island - A Personal Review - this site is updated once or twice a year!

Jacques Tropical Dining -Vigie Cove near Castries - Northern end of St Lucia
Rest. phone.  001 758 458 1900

This restaurant is owned by French chef Jacky Rioux and his English wife Cathy who manages the restaurant. It serves a gourmet French food with a Caribbean twist. The fish is very fresh and the location of the restaurant is lovely - overlooking the water and across the water from the Coalpot. The atmosphere is very relaxing and tranquil with the shimmering lights over the water adding to the ambience. The restaurant has many stone frogs and sculptures in it and although a little off the beaten track, is well worth a visit and deserves to be better known.

Head Barman is Cyril who makes a very good Ti Ponche (Little Punch)

Here is the recipe:

Rum

Lime Juice

Sugar Syrup

Angustora Bitters

Serve straight or over ice.

Definitely my favourite!

The cocktails are very good. Ask for a Mango Daquiri if they have it. Delicious! I have added a helpful hangover cure above.

Here is Head Barman Cyril showing how to make a Bloody Mary Cyril has been at the restaurant for quite some time and is an expert in making cocktails - I haven't managed to defeat him yet! Warning, this is a very large file and is in AVI format.

If you can read AVI formats click above.

Food to ask for if it is on the menu:
Home smoked fish, lobster, scallops, seafood brioche in passionfruit sauce, octopus and conch. The Duck is also very good and there is a good choice of desserts.

We have eaten there many times and the food has always been good. The menu is innovative and good value. Jacky, the chef, smokes his own fish. This is not always on the menu but is worth asking for when available.

How to get there! Jacques is about 15-20 minutes drive from Windjammer,Landing Wyndham Morgan, Orange Grove and Sandals. Taxi drivers who take you there will arrange a pick up time with you to take you back to your hotel. If you let Cathy know the time of the pickup she will ensure that you are finished in time for your return taxi!

Eagles Inn - Rodney Bay
Unfortunately this restaurant is closed. If Chef Dominic opens up elsewhere on the island I will update this section! 19/11/2007

Fox Grove Inn
This is located halfway down the island on the Atlantic cost side overlooking Praslin Bay and is 5 minutes walk from Mamiku Gardens. The views from the restaurant are lovely and the food delicious. The Hotel and Restaurant are owned by a husband and wife team from St Lucia and Switzerland respectively. Chef Franz cooks excellent fresh fish. There is also a swimming pool on site with changing facilities and views over Praslin Bay. Try the Marlin if they have it, highly recommended!

The Edge Restaurant, Rodney Bay

This is a lovely restaurant with a great waterside setting. Chef Bobo, who was at Windjammer Landing for 3 years, has now ventured out and opened up his own place. It is excellent and also has a Sushi Bar. The food is described as "Asian Fusion" and is very well presented with some unusual combinations. Bobo continues to make a reputation on the island for his innovative cooking and flair. Very popular in the high season! Pictures to follow....

The Coalpot

Pretty restaurant located near Vigie Cove and opposite Jacques Tropical Dining. Good food and ambience, except when it rains when the shutters come down and obstruct the view of the bay! Local artist Michelle Xavier, who also owns the restaurant, has many of her works on display around the restaurant.
