RESEARCH The goal of my research is to bridge-the-gap between real and computer generated imagery. My research combines the fields of computer vision, graphics and animation to investigate new methods for reconstruction, modelling and understanding of the real world from images and video. Over the past decade I have developed methods for capturing animated models and video-realistic synthesis of real objects, people and environments from images. Research has pioneered several new technologies:
I am currently a Reader in Computer Vision and Graphics and lead the Visual Media, Research Group. From 1997-2001 I was an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow working on capture and modelling of people. My research has recieved several awards for oustanding academic publications and enabled a number of award winning commercial systems for industrial design, computer animation, broadcast production, games and visual communication. Current research is pursuing photo-realistic reproduction & behavioural modelling of dynamic scenes such as moving people, sports events & other natural phenomena. Ultimately the challenge is to capture representations which reproduce the appearance and interactive behaviour of real people. If you are interested in pursuing related PhD or post-doctoral research in the areas vision, graphics or animation research contact me for current vacancies.
